Fager Gustav Sweet Iron Bevel Bit

The Fager Gustav Sweet Iron Bevel Bit is constructed with a 100% super smooth surface, even around the joints which are designed to never interfere with or push against the palate. It is a very comfortable bit that shapes naturally around the tongue and relieves the bars from constant pressure.

Thanks to the smooth joints, this bit is a good option for horses who can overreact when you take the reins and have a hard time keeping a consistent contact with the bit.

This model is a good choice if you want the horse to hold on to a stable, consistent contact without getting too strong of stiff in the sides.

NOTE: Gustav can be used in two ways: Either with tongue relief or with bar relief.

For tongue relief - If you would describe your horse as the following:

• Inconsistent in the contact, needs to lay more on the bit without getting stiff in the mouth.
• Pulls the reins down/forward when you take up the reins.
• Sensitive tongue.
• Attempts to put their tongue over the bit/plays with the tongue.
• Fussy mouthed.

For bar relief- Turn the bit upside down.

• • Inconsistent in the contact, needs to lay more on the bit.
  • Bites on the bit, attempts to pull it back.
  • Can through the head up when you take the reins.
  • Sensitive bars and/or low palate.

Material

Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. The purpose is to disguise the metal taste from stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold on to the bit. Following use, sweet iron will start to oxidize and turn brownish grey, this is to be expected.

Sweet iron is a good choice for horses who need to seek more contact with the bit.

Loose rings

A Beval bit has a similar effect to a 2½ & 3 Ring Snaffle, but has a softer effect and less leverage. Gives a flexible, soft feeling in the hand. This bit can be used with the reins in multiple positions depending on what effect you’d like from the bit. It can also be used with a gag rein thanks to the special design with bent loop rings on the inside. The gag rein can slide smoothly in the loop rings.
