Dr Emma Lawrence, Illustrator, Designer & Author

When Emma was told she could not study Art and Biology together, she ended up on a different path and studied for over 7 years to train as a Clinical Psychologist. She worked as a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, specialising in brain injury and stroke, using her creativity to come up with varied solutions in the rehabilitation of memory and cognitive disorders but was always keen to spend more time drawing. After a successful career in the NHS for over 23 years, Emma decided to take the leap and pursue her life-long passion for illustration and design.

Since childhood Emma loved drawing and making things, particularly relating to nature. From collecting shells on the beaches of North Wales, pressing wildflowers and drawing outside to making driftwood boats or painting the countryside and birds. The stunning Shropshire countryside, where she now lives, provides plenty of inspiration. Nature often features in her work and on nearly every design, her little trademark bird is featured. Her unique style of ink and mixed media is fresh and appealing. Her use of humour and drawings of popular subjects from animals wearing wellies to mugs and jugs full of wildflowers make the perfect greeting card design for any occasion. In just a few years she has won several awards including Launchpad at Manchester Stationery Show and Highly Commended in Gift of the Year in both 2018 and 2019

She is keen to encourage children to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and appreciate all our wonderful wildlife, particularly the little bugs and creatures that are often overlooked. After seeing many bold and colourful books about grand giraffes, fancy tigers and jungle tales, she was keen to demonstrate the beauty and value of what we have around us. From a town backyard, a grassy park or wild hedgerow, there is so much to see and investigate which is accessible to everyone. This led to the development of the Little Nature Explorers® series of children’s books.

She is a member of the Greeting Card Association, Association of Illustrators and the Society of Authors

Emma is available for commissions and collaborations. Her designs are licensed by a range of different companies who produce gifts and products including greetings cards, stationery, textiles, puzzles, home accessories, scarves, children’s gifts and home decor.
