Designed in 1983 by Barbour Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, the Barbour Beaufort Jacket quickly became one of the brand’s most iconic pieces. It features a practical full-width rear pocket, along with a detachable hood and liner for added versatility. Made from medium-weight 6oz Thornproof waxed cotton, the Beaufort delivers year-round durability. The jacket includes Velcro wind cuffs, a studded corduroy collar, and a chunky two-way Barbour ring-pull zip, all complemented by a studded ‘Stormfly’ front closure. Two bellows pockets, along with moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets, ensure everyday practicality. Drawing inspiration from French shooting jackets, the Beaufort’s shorter length and large, wipe-clean Nylon-lined rear pocket offer extra functionality. While earlier versions carried the Dress Gordon tartan, the modern Beaufort features the Classic Barbour tartan, inspired by the Barbour family’s Ayrshire roots.
