The Fager Marcus Sweet Iron Bevel Bit is a Double-Jointed bit with tongue relief. Our bits are designed to have a 100% smooth surface, including around the joints. The joints are designed and constructed to never push against the palate or sit on top of the bars. All these clever features result in a highly comfortable bit that naturally fits the contours of the tongue.

The small tongue relief, combined with the smooth joints, makes this bit a good option for horses with sensitive tongues who can open their mouths, pull the reins, and move the tongue around.

Material

Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. The purpose is to disguise the metal taste from stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste. This encourages the horse to seek more contact and hold on to the bit. Following use, sweet iron will start to oxidize and turn brownish grey, this is to be expected.

Sweet iron is a good choice for horses who need to seek more contact with the bit.

Bevel

A Beval bit has a similar effect to a 2½ & 3 Ring Snaffle, but has a softer effect and less leverage. Gives a flexible, soft feeling in the hand. This bit can be used with the reins in multiple positions depending on what effect you’d like from the bit. It can also be used with a gag rein thanks to the special design with bent loop rings on the inside. The gag rein can slide smoothly in the loop rings.
